Millburn First Responders Dispatched to Scene of Fire

Members of the Millburn Fire Department, Millburn Police Department and Millburn/Short Hills First Aid Squad worked yesterday afternoon to battle a house fire on 24 Norwood Terrace, and treat the victims of the blaze.

When first responders get to the scene of a house fire, pets are often the most difficult to extract. One of the many challenges that Firemen and EMS workers face in that situation is that there is no oxygen mask designed for pets on hand.

[Millburn Helps] Summit F.D. Puts Down Brush Fire Threatening Multiple Homes

 

An approximately quarter-mile long brush fire, which began along the railroad tracks and climbed the adjacent hillside and threatened numerous Summit residences, was extinguished by the Summit Fire Department (SFD) Friday afternoon, preventing damage to the nearby homes.

Kids of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to be enchanted by Disney's "Aladdin" -- and get out of the snowy, cold weather -- when the Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty office in Short Hills hosted clients and guests from throughout the area at a free screening of the Genie-centric film.

Fridays at the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad are typically easy-going. The day’s crew responds to an average of 3-4 calls throughout their 12-hour shift; seldom do they each occur at once. However, on a recent Friday, the Squad received 3 dispatches in a matter of 22 minutes.

When it comes to having a stroke, quickly recognizing the signs and symptoms and calling 911 to receive immediate medical attention are both extremely important steps to improving the odds of a successful recovery.

The Thornton Family: Giving Back to the Community They Love

 

The Millburn-Short Hills First Aid Squad is a family affair for Hartshorn resident Joe Thronton. As a proponent of giving back to the community, Joe became interested in joining after hearing about it from his daughter Caroline. Caroline joined the cadets back when she was in high school and now Joe's other daughter, Rachel, is currently a cadet.

What began as a 9-1-1 call for a medical emergency from a Summit resident in her home, evolved into an incident that sent 5 people, including 3 first responders to the hospital.

Members of the Millburn Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad (MSHVRAS) and members of the Millburn Police Department received special recognition on Tuesday as December 2016 was proclaimed "Lifesaver Month," and dedicated this distinction to the to the MSHVRAS and their lifesaving efforts.

Brownie Troop 20421 made a visit to the Millburn/Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad past Monday to get tips to earn their First Aid Badge. Squad Captain Melissa Campbell gave the troop a tour of the facility on Glen Ave. and the equipment on board an emergency services vehicle.
